Who we are and how to reach us
Learn Korean from Your Bias ("KoreanScene") is the service at learnbias.com. It builds Korean lessons from the subtitles of YouTube videos. For any question about this notice or your data, write to hello@learnbias.com.
What we collect
Sign-in with Google. We use Google Sign-In with the basic scopes only (openid, email, profile). From your Google account we receive and store your name, your email address, and the URL of your profile picture. We never see your Google password.
Account settings. The learning language you choose, and your account role.
Age confirmation. Paid subscriptions are available only to users aged 18 or older. If you confirm this, we record the time and the version of the notice you confirmed.
Learning activity. Which lesson decks you have access to, your progress through cards, your answers to Quick Check questions, and a ledger of credits added to or used by your account.
Chrome extension. If you link the extension, we record when it was linked and issue it access tokens. The extension sends us the subtitles of the YouTube videos you choose to turn into lessons.
Pre-registration. During the pilot, signing in also registers your interest in the launch, and we record whether you unsubscribe from those emails.
Technical data. A session cookie that keeps you signed in, and standard web-server logs (IP address, requested page, time) kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. We also measure how the site is used with Umami, an analytics tool we host ourselves: it counts page views, the page you came from, and your country and device type. It sets no cookie, stores no IP address, and cannot recognise you across sites or visits. We do not use advertising or tracking pixels.
How we use it
To identify your account and keep you signed in. Sessions last 30 days and are renewed while you use the service.
To show lessons in your chosen language and to save your learning progress.
To run the lesson generation you request and to account for the credits it uses.
To send pre-registration emails about the launch, each with an unsubscribe link.
To apply the age requirement for paid plans, and to keep the service secure.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data. We use these service providers, each only for the purpose named:
Google — sign-in; we also query the YouTube Data API for public video information, which involves no personal data.
Paddle — payment processing, acting as merchant of record. Payments are not active during the pilot. When they are, Paddle handles your payment details and receives an internal account identifier from us.
Resend — delivers our emails; it receives your email address and name for that purpose.
OpenAI — processes the Korean subtitle text of videos to create lesson content. No account data is sent.
Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — generates audio for Korean sentences. No account data is sent.
Neon (database hosting) and Vultr (server hosting) — our data is stored and processed on their infrastructure in the United States.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. When an account is deleted, its learning progress and deck access are removed, all sessions and extension tokens are revoked, and the account record is marked deleted. Credit ledger entries are kept for accounting; they are append-only and are never rewritten.
During the pilot the in-app account page is not yet open. To delete your account or ask about your data, email hello@learnbias.com and we will process the request.
Changes
This is an interim notice for the pilot. It will be replaced by the formal privacy policy before commercial launch; the date at the top of this page is the last time this text changed.
